Challenge Exercise Instructions

 

Instructions

·        Read the Challenge Exercise Scenario

·        Break into three small groups to prepare and deliver presentations before the Commissioners and CIOs. (Groups 1, 2, 3).

ü      Each group will have time to prepare a 10 minute PowerPoint presentation.  A PowerPoint presentation template will be provided.

ü      In addition, Group #2 can use the Test Plan Template provided to help your team think through the elements of your test plans. 

ü      Deliver a 10 minute presentation.  Allow an additional 5 minutes for questions from the Commissioners and CIOs. 

·        Form an additional small group to represent the State of Nirvana’s Commissioners and CIOs (Group 4).   

 

Group #1 – Business Case

Objectives:

  • Convince the Commissioners that additional funding is necessary for the testing effort.
  • Increase the Commissioners’ understanding of and appreciation for a structured testing methodology.

Content Notes:

  • Reference training Topic 2:  Business Case for Structured Testing.  What does a structured testing methodology include?
  • What type of organizational structure and resources does your team recommend to support a structured testing methodology?
  • What is the business case for employing a structured testing methodology?

 

Group #2 – Systematic Testing Approach – UAT

Objective:

  • Convince the CIOs and Commissioners that your team has a good, comprehensive user acceptance test plan.
  • Present an overview of your team’s user acceptance test plan.

  • Reference the Test Plan Template provided by the course facilitator to help your team think through the elements of your test plan.  Reference State Samples Tab for examples of user acceptance test plans.

 

Group #3 – Performance Testing Tool

Objective:

  • Convince the CIO and Commissioners that your team needs resources for a performance testing tool for the Title XIX interface project

 

  • Present an overview of your rationale and approach to using a performance testing tool on this project

Group #4– State of Nirvana Commissioner and Agency CIOs

 

Objective:

  • Provide additional information on your expectations via “email” to Groups 1, 2, and 3 prior to their presentations
  • Listen to each group’s presentation
  • Ask clarifying questions during presentation
  • Announce your decisions, with rationale, at end of all presentations
  • Give constructive feedback to each group at end of all presentations
